What this privacy policy covers

This privacy policy covers this website and the enquiry form on it. It does not cover what happens to a matter once the firm is retained. That is governed by the professional obligations KP Rathod Professional Corporation owes every client, and it is explained at the point a file is opened.

What does the contact form collect?

Your name, telephone number, email address and a description of your matter, all required, plus two optional consent boxes: one for messages about your own enquiry, and one for marketing. Neither is ticked for you, and leaving the second unticked does not affect the first.

The form is not part of this website. It is served from the firm's client-management system, which is why a submission goes straight into the firm's records rather than into an inbox. That system is run for the firm by a third party, and what you type is stored there. It is reached at api.rathodlaw.com, which is the firm's own address pointing at that provider, so the address alone would not tell you a third party is involved.

As with any website, the server delivering these pages receives ordinary technical connection details such as an IP address. Nothing on this site builds a profile from them.

What this site does not do

There is no analytics on this site, no tracking pixel, and no advertising tag. It sets no cookies of its own and stores nothing in your browser.

The typefaces are served from this site rather than from a font network, so opening a page here does not announce the visit to anybody else.

What is loaded from somewhere else?

Two things, both on the contact page. The map of the Brampton office is loaded from Google: when that page opens your browser contacts Google directly, and Google may set its own cookies and record the request under its own terms. The firm does not control that and receives nothing from it.

The enquiry form is the second. It is loaded from the firm's client-management provider, and anything you type into it goes to that provider rather than through this site.

Every other page on this site loads only from this site.

How long is an enquiry kept?

An enquiry that does not become a file is kept while it is being answered and for as long as needed to deal with anything arising from it.

An enquiry that does become a file stops being covered by this privacy policy. It is then kept under the record-keeping obligations that apply to a law practice in Ontario, which run in years rather than months. You can ask for an enquiry to be deleted before that point, and it will be, unless there is a legal reason to keep it.

What are your rights under PIPEDA?

The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act gives you the right to ask what personal information an organisation holds about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, and to withdraw your consent to its use. Ask by telephone or by email and the firm will answer.

If the answer does not satisfy you, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada takes complaints and is independent of this firm.
